How to Create A Great Listing

Now you are ready to start listing on eBay!  In this video, learn how to optimize your eBay listing to generate more traffic and sales.

Tips for Creating A Great Listing

  1. List everything.  Be as descriptive as possible about the color, size, brand, and material.
  2. Be honest.  If there is a spot, dirt, dust or pilling, be sure to include that in your listing.  If your item in the photo appears darker than the original, put that in the listing.  
  3. Use all of the free pictures that eBay gives you.  
  4. Optimize your search listings by filling in as many fields as possible.  People can filter their search by style or color and you don't want to get filtered out of that search. 
  5. Make your title pertinent to what you're listing.  Don't say "excellent" or "have-to-buy" because that's not how people search.  Instead say something like "New Ralph Lauren Handbag, Black."
  6. Use simple fonts in one color.  No bouncing bunnies or crazy HTML.  This makes it easier for folks who are buying through a mobile device.
  7. Save the wording you use over and over again in the notes section of your phone so that you don't have to keep retyping it.  Statements about how you measure or your commitment to customer service can be the same in every listing. 
  8. Avoid using common terms that are actually trademarked words -- eBay will delete your listing if you use a trademarked word improperly (like onesie, scotch tape, or Velcro). 
  9. Put "best offer" on everything. It drives interest and you don't have to accept the offer if you think it's too low.
